Rihanna 'Talk That Talk'
Two and a half stars

Talk That Talk is Rihanna’s sixth release in seven years, and that breakneck pace has produced some inconsistent albums. Talk continues in the vein of last year’s Loud, with catchy electro-pop songs like “Where Have You Been” and “We Found Love” forwarding the singer’s status as a dance-club diva while various misfires pad out the running time. Nothing here has the undeniable immediacy of “Only Girl (In the World)” or “Umbrella,” although Rihanna remains charismatic whether she’s bringing in a little Caribbean flavor (on “You Da One”) or belting out an appropriately grand ballad (album closer “Farewell”). The weirdly disjointed and repetitive “Cockiness (Love It)” aside, Talk doesn’t feature any bad songs, but it doesn’t feature enough great ones, either.
