Hear them growl: Party Talk is off to an auspicious start.

If you’re a musician young-looking enough to get shooed away from the craps tables for standing too close, chances are your band plays hardcore. Not so for the young men of Party Talk. Paying homage to New Order and Joy Division, Party Talk blends dancey post-punk with dreamy pop—a style steadily growing here in Las Vegas.

The trio—Las Vegas High grads Alain Lopez (vocals/guitar), Nemo Chavez (bass) and Carlos Turcios (drums)—came together in November and have already built a following, judging from last Friday’s set at Artifice, where they opened for The Growlers. Fans picked their way through the packed back room to form a dance circle near the stage and shout “East Side!” between songs.

As for the future, Lopez says Party Talk is recording new songs. “Right now we’re working on a demo. “We were aiming to hand out [at Artifice], but it didn’t work out.” The release date is still TBA, but you can catch the band at Yayo Taco on July 9 and the Bunkhouse on July 15.
