Stafford boys bring brotherly love to Marquee

An Australian flag waved over the Australian-born Stafford Brothers as they debuted in Las Vegas last Friday. Just a couple weeks after playing Marquee’s new location in their homeland, the pair kicked off a string of tourist shenanigans and gigs at both Marquee and Lavo.

“The Sydney Marquee is an amazing venue,” said brother Matt. “It looks fantastic, and it’s what the scene needed. It isn’t as big as the Vegas venue, and there isn’t a pool area, which is obviously something that makes the Vegas Marquee extra special.”

Watching Matt and Chris, actual brothers who have their own reality show in Australia, you might have thought they were reuniting onstage—hugs abounded, and they bounced up and down energetically throughout the set. Chris frequently took to the microphone, hyping up the Marquee crowd even more.

Timmy Trumpet, a fellow Australian house DJ and musician, happened to be in the U.S. last weekend, too, and was added to the show last minute. His signature horn solos cut through the otherwise bass-heavy sounds, usually playing the melodies of the records the Staffords chose. Timmy seemed as excited as the duo, alternately trumpeting from above the stage and the sides of the DJ booth, and sometimes just standing nearby to join in the hugs and happiness.

I’d heard time and time again that these guys were “fun, fun, fun,” and their performance lived up to the reputation. It’s no surprise that they’re in Season 2 of their show, or that they’re considered “the down-to-earth mates of the industry.”

Another pair of DJ brothers, the EC Twins, also stopped by Marquee for a hello, and the Staffords returned the favor, joining them on Saturday for their set at Marquee Dayclub after a Man v. Food-style breakfast at Hash House A Go Go. They later checked out Funkagenda and Morgan Page at XS, where Timmy pointed at Matt and told me, “You want some dirt? That one’s a woman!” Last I heard, the brothers were “kidnapped” by a Hummer limo, and their Vegas to-do list includes shooting an Uzi.

If you also missed their set on Tuesday night at Lavo, the Staffords will be back at Marquee in August. Stay tuned, and get ready for a hug.
