Dream Zone: ‘waiting to have surgery’

In my dream I am in a hospital waiting to have surgery. Apparently, the place had just been sprayed for cockroaches. The orderlies begin to lob gas pellets at me that are supposed to make me go to sleep, but it doesn’t work and I am afraid that they will do surgery on me while I’m awake. I notice a large, dead, bloody dog and then I wake up! - Carol, 57

Lauri: The hospital setting suggests some area of your life is not doing well. The surgery indicates that some situation needs to be repaired or removed. Cockroaches are known for being able to survive a nuclear war, so this may be about something that’s been “bugging” you lately and has been difficult for you to “exterminate.” The ineffective gas pellets mean you are fully aware of what needs to be done. Unfortunately, the “procedure” of “removing” this situation from your life is probably going to be painful. The dead bloody dog is a very significant symbol. Dogs symbolize loyalty, companionship and friendship. Is there a particular relationship that has been bleeding you dry emotionally? Your dream is telling you it’s time to remove this unhealthy issue so you can move on.

Carol replies: There is a friend in my life that I am in the process of having to pull away from. She is very manipulative. The relationship is nearly over but still breathing slightly. This really pulls it all together for me. It’s absolute confirmation that I HAVE to end this relationship! I can’t tell you how much I appreciate your insight.
