There’s something wickedly enticing about karaoke. The wonder of a stage within our reach combined with an endless supply of liquid courage and an extensive list of Journey and Queen songs is enough to make anyone feel like the next Bette Midler. So when Halloween Town singer/event promoter Ryan Pardey and co-host Jim Green were conjuring up their next Downtown event, it seemed only natural to start a karaoke night at the Artifice.
“People are just die-hard karaoke fans,” Pardey says. “It used to have a bit of a dorky reputation, but anybody can come out and sing. It doesn’t matter if it’s bad; nobody cares. It’s always a fun time.”
The new event—awesomely named Okie-Dokie Karaoke—has some perks. It isn’t in a smoky dive bar(!). There’s no cover. And there are drink specials until midnight. So if you’re ready to show Downtown what you’ve got, this might be the place to debut that version of “Bohemian Rhapsody” you’ve been practicing in the shower.
