Nightlife News & Notes: Body English goes big, famous fun at the Act and more

It’s been a month since it reopened, but Body English put on one helluva grand opening party this past week. Three parties, to be exact. On Friday, a Lady Gaga concert afterparty pulled in a distinctly “Monster”-flavored crowd, judging by some of the offbeat attire. Saturday brought Chicago house veteran Mark Farina to the DJ booth, spinning to a heavily local and industry crowd. And hip-hop legends De La Soul were in the house for the Industry Grand Opening on Sunday, with Tha Alkaholiks joining them onstage for a song and De La Soul’s Posdnuos going into the crowd to perform a track late in the show.

Showing that this town is big enough for two afterparties, more of Gaga’s Little Monsters found their way to the Act on Saturday, with Absinthe singer Melody Sweets among the celebs on the red carpet, along with actors Jude Law and Jack Huston. Gaga opener Lady Starlight put on a special DJ set and performance for the intimate club and showed up to the party in a wedding dress. Ya know, just in case.

A word of warning for the afterhours set: This weekend is Drai’s last. At least, for now. The famous club is putting on a “moving party” February 3 at 10 p.m., featuring DJs Chris Garcia, Fabian, Miguel Ortiz and Direct (and, as far as we know, no boxes and packing tape). The club is keeping hush on when its new location will debut at Bally’s, but plans to open “soon,” while Bill’s Gamblin’ Hall undergoes a boutique hotel face-lift.

With the New York Times declaring dating “dead” and fake significant others seemingly having their moment, it’s no surprise we get more anti-Valentine’s Day parties than the opposite this year. And on February 14, Tao is really celebrating singledom: The nightclub is creating a giant breakup collage, inviting clubgoers to place photos of their exes on an oversized dartboard in exchange for a free drink. (No word on who gets to douse the thing in booze and light it on fire.) Have another round and, who knows, you just might meet your next ex.
