Bill Cosby Arguably the most family-friendly comedian around. His humor, centering around his upbringing and family, has appealed to generations of fans. Sample bit: “I asked my father to give me a dollar for the school picnic. He told me how he killed a grizzly bear with his loose-leaf notebook.” Verdict: Take everyone and feel safe. July 19, 8 p.m., $66-$88, Treasure Island, 894-7722.

Kathleen Madigan Goes a bit more adult with her observational comedy. Sample bit (on stuff her mother says): “When I see women holding hands, I don’t know if they’re lesbians or if just one of the ladies is blind.” Verdict: Take your date and feel safe. July 20, 10 p.m., $33-$55, Mirage, 792-7777.

Sarah Silverman Wherever the line between good and bad taste might be, she walks right over it. If her take-no-prisoners approach has never offended you, there’s something wrong with you. Sample bit: Censored. Verdict: Take a really open-minded friend and keep your fingers crossed. July 20, 8 p.m., $43-$93, Pearl, 944-3200.
