As We See It

Will the Las Vegas community help fund the Huntridge?

If Facebook “likes” were $20 donations, Huntridge Revival, LLC would have raised more than $120,000 last month, when the Weekly first reported on the group’s plan to renovate and reopen Downtown’s historic Huntridge Theatre. Local enthusiasm soared in those first hours, and the partners behind the project hope to recapture that spirit with their just-launched Save the Huntridge crowdfunding campaign on indiegogo.com. At press time, with 36 of 40 days remaining, the effort had raised $21,883 of its $150,000 goal.

That second dollar figure represents just 1 percent of some $15 million Huntridge Revival hopes to raise (the remainder will come in the form of private investments), but it might be the most critical portion. Should the public reach the $150,000 threshold, “it will prove that community support exists to justify much larger private investment,” the campaign’s mission statement explains. Or, failure to achieve the goal could doom the project before it begins, leaving the Huntridge in its long-suffering limbo.
