Magic

Despite the scenario in ‘Burt Wonderstone,’ magicians insist they all get along

Apparently there is no stage vs. street magic battle.

In The Incredible Burt Wonderstone (see review, Page 44), Siegfried & Roy-type Vegas magicians (Steve Carell and Steve Buscemi) battle a Criss Angel/David Blaine-type street magician (Jim Carrey). But does this stage/street rivalry really exist?

Vegas headliner Jan Rouven says, “I don’t see a specific rivalry. In the end, the customer decides at the ticket booth. Some prefer a classic magic show, others street magic.” And Vegas street magician “Jungle Josh” agrees: “I don’t think there is a rivalry between street and stage at all. There are a number of big-name stage magicians who actually started on the street.”

Neither magician has seen Wonderstone yet, but they both plan to, and both hope it will be “good for magic.”
