The Thunderbirds, the U.S. Air Force Air Demonstration Squadron, flew over the Las Vegas Motor Speedway prior to the start of the Kobalt Tools 400 NASCAR race on a recent Sunday. I usually know the time they’ll fly over and the direction they’ll come from. Still, if you’re on the track, you can’t see them coming and they pass by pretty fast. I got off two or three frames as they were coming in and maybe another two as they flew over the grandstands. While always exciting, the sight was especially notable this year: Due to sequestration cuts, this was the last Air Force flyover for a NASCAR race. Or, at least, until the politicians get the budget cuts figured out.
