Dining News & Notes: New Japanese restaurants hitting the Strip

Japanese developments abound in the kitchens of MGM Resorts properties. Earlier this month, Iron Chef America legend Masaharu Morimoto confirmed he will open his first restaurant in Las Vegas in 2014 at the Mirage, taking over the space currently occupied by Japonais.

More recently, Light Group announced that executive chef Akira Back from Yellowtail at Bellagio will pull double duty with the same title at the upcoming Kumi at Mandalay Bay. Back joins new Vegas resident Toshiyuki Motoyama, Kumi’s executive sushi chef, in prepping the modern Japanese restaurant for a summer opening.

Down the hall at Mandalay: Border Grill continues to get noticed for its deliciously affordable Border Brunch, but there’s action in the evenings as well. A Milagro Tequila and barbecue dinner is coming June 6, five courses with cocktail pairings for $150 plus tax and gratuity. Reserve your spot by calling 632-7403, or consider joining Border Grill's VIP club at bordergrill.com and receive a special price of $75 for this experience.

Wahoo’s continues to spread its beachy vibe around our desert. The third location of Wahoo’s Fish Tacos opened this month at the Black Mountain Marketplace on Horizon Ridge Parkway, and a fourth restaurant will arrive in late summer at Green Valley and Horizon Ridge parkways.
