Revolution to get by with a little help from its friends at Light Group

The news reached Team Hangover last Thursday evening and was quickly confirmed by a source within Light Group that the blockbuster nightlife conglomerate famous for its fertile quadrangle at Bellagio (formed by The Bank, Caramel, Fix and Yellowtail) is now placing the final piece for a similar success story at the Mirage by adding The Beatles Revolution Lounge to its portfolio of venues. At the time of its January 19, 2007 opening, the 5,000-square-foot interactive lounge was operated by INK, a premier nightclub operator out of Toronto.

It’s kind of poetic if you think about it. Flowing guests freely among Stack Restaurant, Bare Pool Lounge, Jet Nightclub and now Revolution Lounge, Light Group will have complete nightlife domination of the property. With the takeover additionally confirmed by a Cirque du Soleil representative, it can be assumed that Light Group will take control of the Revolution space as part of a management agreement wherein Light Group is contracted to run the lounge for the owning partners, Cirque du Soleil, The Beatles’ Apple Corps Ltd. and the Mirage. Reps for the Mirage and Revolution declined comment on the matter.

Former Revolution promoter Kozmoe Alonzo says he’d heard talk about a possible takeover for quite a while but was unaware of the confirmed news until now. “I think it could be positive,” he says of Light Group’s new role, adding, “[Revolution is] going to have a lot more support now.” Alonzo left Revolution to help open Rok Vegas nightclub at New York-New York in August.

“I don’t think [Light Group is] going to make too many changes,” Alonzo continues, speculating about the deal points. “Cirque is really proud of the brand, and as far as I know it’s still a partnership … it’s still part of the Love show. Probably most of the changes will be to the management and promotion.” No comment about whether the promoter will return to promoting the vibrant indie and live music scene he helped create at Revolution along with Dave Pappas, former Revolution executive director. The duo of Pappas and Alonzo was responsible for bringing live indie and electro music to Revolution, ushering in Pappas’ signature night, Live Revolution, first on Tuesdays and now on Sundays.

“They’ve got a machine,” says Pappas of Light Group’s marketing prowess, “and they can turn that machine on and get things going there … I wish I could have had a little of that machine while I was there. We never could reach capacity; it never was that ‘Wow!’”

Still up in the air in the wake of these new developments are the fates of Live Revolution Sundays and Cirque du Soleil’s multifaceted Tepis Rouge promotion.

It’s about time you can get a martini with your massage! Always fans of imbibing, Team Hangover salutes Canyon Ranch as the first spa on the Strip to serve alcohol, however counterintuitive that may be. The recently expanded 134,000-square-foot facility spans both the Venetian and the Palazzo, plus offers a multitude of exclusive services. And booze.

You can relax solo with a pinot and a pedicure or bond with the boys and have a few beers in the VIP locker room or private barber suite. Canyon Ranch SpaClub also incorporates essential vino elements into treatments, such as a cabernet cocoon or a wine country massage. The new Canyon Ranch Grill on the Palazzo side of the spa offers on-site dining and an extensive selection of organic/sustainable/biodynamic spirits, sake and sparkling wine. So go ahead and hit up the bar in your terry-cloth robe. Only this time, it’s on purpose, and the staff won’t call the cops.
