As every local knows, pool parties (and especially evening pool parties) are more about dancing around the water than getting into it. But starting May 14, M Resort is making bikinis and board shorts the preferred attire for its weekly M Pool Live held Saturdays from 8-11 p.m. The cover-free party includes nighttime swimming, outdoor concerts and light food. Better still? Flip-flops won’t get you bounced at the door.

Local boy Brett Rubin has spun all over the Strip, but recently the DJ has landed a few blocks west. Rubin is the new weekend resident at Posh Boutique Nightclub, where he’ll spin alongside guests like Jordan Stevens (May 7) and Christopher Lawrence (May 14) starting at midnight. Lawrence will be a showcasing artists from his Pharmacy Music label. Cover is $20 for women, $30 for men, locals free.

According to Station Casinos’ blog, Nevadans are the leading beer drinkers in the country. While we’re pretty sure the tourist population is messing with the numbers, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t help us keep our standing. May 7 marks Barley’s Brewfest, a $25 all-you-can-sample beer-soaked afternoon with breweries like Kona, Tenaya Creek, Stone, Unibroue and, of course, Barley’s pouring from 3-9 p.m. Come thirsty; leave stumbling ... straight into the back of a cab. —Sarah Feldberg

Don’t blink—the fastest two minutes in sports are going down this Saturday! If you can’t make it to Churchill Downs, get your Kentucky Derby fix at venues around the city. Check our events guide and learn how to make a mint julep (the race’s traditional libation), courtesy of the Mirage’s Rhumbar.
