Tivoli Village finally gets a nighttime hang with The Den

With Poppy Den’s new lounge, The Den, Tivoli Village now has a nightlife-dedicated venue.

From day one, Tivoli Village has been a fine spot for foodies, but the Summerlin shopping center offered little in the way of fun late-night spots until the Den opened on Poppy Den Asian Bistro’s second floor earlier this month.

The Asian-inspired indoor-outdoor venue falls squarely into the lounge category, with a dimly lit bar, a patio and a modest dancefloor. A selection of signature cocktails start at $8, the Absinthe Dream (dark rum, absinthe, grenadine and lime) being a particular highlight.

The dancefloor is in a separate room that opens onto the patio and bar, and true to the venue’s inspiration, screens show scenes from classic Asian films. It was a little heavy on the retro kung fu this particular night, but you can also expect mood-enhancing black-and-white movies to go with the selection of pop, hip-hop and dance music pumping from the DJ booth. The films feel silly, but not goofy, and they lend the place a not-too-stuffy personality.

Even the elevator that shuttles you up to the bar is plastered with posters that seem plucked right out of Shanghai’s nightlife heyday. If not for the Las Vegas desert in the distance, you’d think that this lounge was, too.

The Den Wednesday-Thursday, 8 p.m.-midnight; Friday & Saturday, 8:30 p.m.-2 a.m. Poppy Den, 802-2480.
