Here are some things producer/DJ Markus Schulz said upon accepting his second America’s Best DJ prize—a gold-plated Pioneer mixer—at a ceremony inside the Library at Marquee on October 12:
• “You could make a lot of gold chains out of [the mixer]!”
• “I never expected this, but it is definitely an honor because it’s fan-driven. This is the fan’s voice.”
• “Marquee is one of those venues that has given me the freedom to perform the art of DJing.”
• “For me, it’s really special in that right now, the United States is the hot spot in the world. … So I’m really proud to not only have been part of the building of the scene, but ... to be in this position at this time, as EDM and dance music have blown up here in America.”
• “I don’t do this for awards. Whether I play for 50 people [at a club] or 50,000 at EDC, this is what I’ve been put on this Earth for.”
