Could there possibly be a better headlining DJ to hang with during CES week in Las Vegas? Steve Aoki’s most recent release was October’s deluxe package compilation Neon Future Odyssey. He’s collaborated sonically with author/inventor/futurist Ray Kurzweil. His website is awash not only in the music and fashion that define his brand, but also in technology, updating followers on new apps, gadgets and ideas.
Aoki (January 8 at Hakkasan, January 15 at Omnia) is all about the future, but those who don’t know that America's Best DJ (according to a recent DJ Times poll) lives here in Las Vegas might not be aware of all he’s done and is doing for his adopted community. Last summer, he teamed up with local police to produce "Party Smart" PSAs. Over the holidays, he dropped a $10k donation on the annual KLUC Toy Drive, a Vegas Christmas institution. And the Steve Aoki Charitable Fund, focused on supporting research of brain science and regenerative medicine, is assisting Keep Memory Alive and Downtown’s Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health in 2016. "Some of the most important research on Alzheimer’s and brain degenerative diseases is happening here in our own neighborhood, and I’m really happy to partner with this organization,” Aoki says. “That’s part of what Neon Future means, to build our own future through science and technology, to have happier, healthier, longer lives."
