One of last week’s most popular stories at lasvegasweekly.com was our announcement that Ryan “Kaskade” Raddon had won the DJ Times 2011 America’s Best DJ competition. Even if you didn’t vote for the LA-based Vegas regular with residencies at Encore Beach Club and Marquee, you can party with Kaskade when he accepts his award—and that sweet gold-plated Pioneer mixer—October 9 at the Cosmopolitan club.

Water. At nightclubs it usually comes in plastic bottles priced way above retail, but at Club D’Amore it flows a bit more freely. The new Lake Las Vegas venue, which soft-opened Labor Day weekend, is actually a two-story, 87-foot yacht. The boat is stocked with multiple bars, VIP tables, a DJ and a dancefloor and leaves the dock each Friday and Saturday just after 9 p.m., returning once an hour until 2 a.m. to let passengers on and off. A floating party in Celine Dion’s ‘hood? Let the Titanic jokes begin.

¿Oyes el grito? For our neighbors to the south, Cinco de Mayo is just another day on the calendar. The real fiesta comes September 16 when Mexicans celebrate el Grito de Dolores, the declaration of war in 1810 that eventually led to Mexico’s independence from Spain some 10 years later. Locals can partake in the festivities with concerts at various Strip casinos, a street fair and folk dancers on Cosmopolitan’s second floor and a multi-day bash at Hussong’s Cantina, which includes half-price pitchers of Mexican beer, rock ‘n’ roll mariachis and piñatas.
