Nightlife News & Notes: Still ready for Blue Man plus Aoki, and more

Everyone missed out on the Blue Man Group’s planned performance at EDC.

Of all the acts canceled Saturday night as the winds whipped the Speedway at Electric Daisy Carnival, one that we’d love to see rescheduled is Blue Man Group’s collaboration with Steve Aoki, originally slated to close out the Kinetic Field main stage. A statement from the blue dudes said that while they were disappointed their performance was canceled, “they look forward to the opportunity to perform at another Insomniac event in the future.” But here’s hoping they don’t wait for 2013’s EDC. While our regular club stages may not have the visual firepower of Kinetic’s LEDs, both Blue Man and Aoki are in town enough to make this gig possible on another Vegas weekend. And if they do, we’ll be front and center—eyes wide and fists pumping.

Big news out of the Wynn this week: The resort has teamed up with dance-music label Ultra Music to release a series of compilations under the name Ultra/Wynn. The first album, to be released this month, will focus on the sounds of Encore Beach Club’s summer DJs, with the lineup to include Deadmau5, Steve Aoki, Avicii and more. The second compilation will feature tracks from XS and will come out September 1.

Even if you’re not a devotee of electronic dance music, chances are you’ve heard Darude’s iconic trance track “Sandstorm,” released in 1999 (aka the year Porter Robinson turned 7). The Finnish DJ makes his Chateau debut this week at Bazaar, the Saturday night fête under the Eiffel Tower at Paris Las Vegas that’s one part carnival, one part circus and two parts dance party. Bring your sense of nostalgia!
