Nightlife news & notes: Datsik at Surrender, UNLVino and more

Datsik plays Surrender on March 16.

Whether your drink of choice is champagne, Japanese sake or the cocktail du jour, you’ll find something to love (and likely something you never knew you loved) at the 38th annual UNLVino. The benefit booze tasting March 22-24 dedicates Thursday to sparkling wine, Friday to sake and Saturday to the grand tasting, complete with wine, beer and plenty of cocktails. Proceeds benefit the College of Hotel Administration at UNLV. Pick up your tickets in advance at for deep discounts.

If pub crawling is among your extracurricular activities, consider taking the party inside—and under one roof—this weekend. Venetian and Palazzo are celebrating St. Paddy’s Day through March 18 with the 5 Leaf Bar Hop, a $30 party pass that gets you five Irish-themed drinks at bars around the property, like Laguna Champagne Bar, Fusion Mixology Bar and the Venetian Race and Sports Book. And the selection goes well beyond Guinness: How about drinking a Dancing Leprechaun (Jameson Irish Whiskey, Drambuie and ginger ale) while in (faux) Italy?

It’s never too early to start working on your tan. Liquid Pool Lounge at Aria opens its doors on March 15 to dayclubbers ready to get the season started. The 16,000-square-foot party pool will open Thursday-Sunday 11 a.m.-6 p.m. until May 1, when it extends its hours for the summer rush.

Vegas nightlife isn’t just about catching the biggest names in EDM, it’s about seeing DJs before they crack DJ Mag’s Top 100. If you’re as interested in the next big thing as you are in today’s blockbusters, head to Surrender March 16 to see dubstep up-and-comer Datsik. The Canadian DJ has already collaborated with Z-Trip and Infected Mushroom and remixed for The Crystal Method, Wu-Tang Clan and Diplo. Catch him in Vegas before he takes his debut artist album to Coachella in April.
