The idea that a serendipitous moment makes great photos is a romanticized notion in photography. Certainly they can make great images, but the truth is that great photography starts with the photographer’s awareness of their surroundings. Photographers are hunters. They track, pick a solid position and wait for that moment they know or hope will happen because its the shot that best tells the story or experience. It's an ability that comes from practice/experience and great observational skills. Here are my best photo hunting moments from 2013.
