Mash-Up

A Rouge By Any Other Name

Word comes from the MGM-Grand that a new name has been decided upon for the hotel lounge replacing the Teatro ultralounge. According to several sources, the space will be called Rouge. Tabú General Manager Laine Fust went one step further, adding that "it will be much more upscale than Zuri," the resort's popular lounge off the hotel lobby. Naturally, the name got us thinking, and after a bit more digging, we can confirm that the luxurious, red, Ferrari leather furniture will be incorporated into the new venue. Who'd have thought all those French classes would come in handy one day?

Shaken and Stirred

The Mash-Up staff are suckers for martinis, whether they be dirty or straight up with a twist. But we've always had to content ourselves with vodka on the rocks or with soda when getting bottle service for the simple fact that martini equipment is never available. Imagine our glee, then, when we were told shakers are available with bottle service at Pure. Can life get any better?

House in the House

Fans of Douglas Gibb's Midnight Snack (take a gander at Nights on the Circuit) can now enjoy the DJ's take on Latin, jazzy and vocal house in the MGM-Grand's West Wing Bar every Friday and Saturday, from 9 p.m. until 2 a.m. Its location is perfect for gathering your thoughts before hitting Studio 54 or catching your breath afterward. Hell, there's nothing stopping you from simply staying put, either.

And Many More!

A belated shout-out to our friends at Hogs & Heifers who recently celebrated their one-year anniversary on July 6. Part of the vanguard in the city's efforts to revitalize Downtown, the raucous bar that celebrates all things biker, babes and bras has been a welcome addition to Vegas. We even understand that the staff has broken an oversized heart or two in town. Equally popular are its Blues, Brews & BBQ each Sunday. This weekend, from 4 to 8 p.m., check out Monk & the Po' Boys, but head down at 1 p.m. to dig into the grilled grub.

Is Your Milkshake Really Better?

Cold Stone Creamery is introducing a new line of shakes and smoothies and naturally that means a dance contest. Called Shake It Up, contestants are asked to record 1-minute videos of themselves showcasing "their most original 'shakin' it up' dance moves." Seven regional finalists will be flown to New York City to compete for $15,000 and a lifetime of free shakes and smoothies. For more info, go to

What If Their Box Office Bombs?

"I don't pay celebrities anything. And if they want to drink here, they're going to pay. They're stars. They can afford it."

—Victor Drai, managing partner of Tryst at Wynn, reacting to a Forbes story about Vegas clubs paying for celebrity appearances.

COCKTAIL o' the Week

Tao-tini

Tao, $10

1.5 ounces Absolut Mandarin Vodka

1 ounce Stoli Raspberry Vodka

1.5 ounces Malibu Rum Liquor

0.5 ounces cranberry juice

0.5 ounces Rose's Lime Juice

Splash of sour mix

Serve up with three skewered raspberries

We don't expect to see Daniel Craig sipping one of these in Casino Royale, but that's no reason you can't. Just don't spill it; we understand orange and raspberry vodka stains are impossible to get out of tuxedo shirts.
