Sometimes you really crave a one-night stand. Who thought UNLV would be into it as well?

Actually, that makes perfect sense…

As the only accredited nightclub course in the country, UNLV’s nightclub management class is all about learning how to throw a kick-ass party. Partnering with Drai’s for its final project Friday night, One Night Stand will kick off at 10 p.m.—a rarity in operation hours for the after-hours hotspot.

“I never realized how much work it takes to plan an event,” says student Jillian Clark. After working as a cocktail server at the infamous Rehab pool party, the nightclub management class has opened Clark’s eyes to the ins and outs of the industry, whether it be through in-class lectures from top nightlife industry personnel to venue tours and attending multiple club nights (yes, the students were required to party—how cool is that?) “I wanted to understand where my boss is coming from,” she says. “You don’t really know how high profile and stressful of a job it is.”

Helping plan the party with fellow students, Clark focused on sponsorships, PR, marketing and promotion throughout the semester. During the process, students made some stellar connections to give attendees a good time. Everyone through the door for One Night Stand will get a free shot of Harlem Kruiden Liqueur to get the party started, and there will be drink specials, such as $8 Ketel One martinis and cocktails, $3 Bud Light Golden Wheat and additional Harlem shots for $5. Red Bull is also sponsoring the event to give it wings.

One Night Stand on November 20 is free for all 21 and up UNLV students with school ID. The event is also open to the public for a $20 cover, but the class is obviously already honing nightlife management skills because Clark adds that non-UNLV students can visit the event’s Facebook page to gain admittance with no cover charge as well. “I definitely think this is a good networking opportunity for students and nightclub employees,” says Clark.

In a departure from the regular Drai’s music format, One Night Stand will offer attendees popular top 40 in the main room (looks like the students paid attending in their lectures and learned the importance of catering to the masses for certain events). But if that’s not your style, never fear. Clark says if the party is really bumping, they might throw on some hip-hop in Drai’s side room, plus afterhours will keep with the house music format with DJs Chris Garcia and Chris Aurelius.

Speaking of Drai’s afterhours, anyone attending One Night Stand is welcome to stick around and party until after sunrise if they so desire at no additional cover. (Lesson No. 3 learned: Get ‘em in to the venue early for maximum perks and them keep them there.)

Ultimately the final test will be the culminating event tomorrow night so stop by and support the industry’s future. But it’s already looking like the students have studied—and partied—their way to an A+. Go Rebels!
