National Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15-October 15) is nearly upon us, and with a schedule of events front-loaded around the first weekend, fiesta-minded Las Vegans should plan accordingly. Here’s a rundown of a few marquee happenings.

Latino Parade and Festival Get a sample of the culture and traditions from many Latin American countries Downtown on September 15. The parade begins at 10 a.m., and the festival, on Third and Ogden streets, runs from 12:30-10 p.m.

Las Vegas International Mariachi Festival Hundreds of world-renowned mariachi performers—including Shaila Dúrcal, Vargas de Tecalitlan, the ensemble Mariachi Sol de Mexico de Jose Hernandez and Mariachi Divas—will fill Planet Hollywood’s Theater for the Performing Arts on September 15.

BOXING

Las Vegas plays host to two boxing matches featuring prominent Hispanic fighters. The WBC super welterweight belt will be on the line September 15 when undefeated Mexican boxer Canelo Alvarez faces Josésito López at MGM Grand. The same night, WBC middleweight champ Julio César Chávez Jr. steps into the ring with Argentinean Sergio Gabriel Martínez, a former WBC and WBO middleweight champion, at the Thomas & Mack Center.

MUSIC

Those who love Latin American music might have trouble deciding which concerts to attend this week. Among the choices: Mexican singer Luis Miguel (September 13-15 at Caesars Colosseum); Flamenco guitarist Esteban (September 13 at Smith Center); Mexican Latin jazz and salsa artist Poncho Sanchez (September 14-15 at Smith Center); Cuban jazz trumpeter Arturo Sandoval (September 15-16 at Orleans); Flamenco guitarist/actress Charo (September 15 at South Point); Mexican pop-rock legends Maná (September 16 at MGM Grand); The Gigant3s Tour—featuring Latin pop stars Marc Anthony, Chayanne and Marco Antonio Solis—(September 14 at Mandalay Bay) and Mexican pop and ranchera star, Alejandro Fernández (September 15 at Mandalay Bay).
