Las Vegas was dealt an amazing hand for its first season of women’s professional basketball. The Las Vegas Aces wrapped an impressive inaugural campaign on the Strip at Mandalay Bay Events Center last summer and WNBA Rookie of the Year and All-Star A’Ja Wilson was a big reason why the team was so successful and so fun to watch.

“I couldn’t have asked for a better year,” she says on this episode of the All The Vegas podcast. “This was my first time going at this pro stuff and I didn’t know what to expect but I had a ton of fun, I was surrounded by great people who took me under their wing, and the sky was the limit for us. I’m really excited to get back here and get playing.”

We also talk with A’ja about her busy offseason that included playing in China and judging the dunk contest at NBA All-Star Weekend; how working with Dawn Staley as a freshman at the University of South Carolina sparked a passion to make it to the pros; becoming the first WNBA player endorsed by Mountain Dew; her love of people-watching in Las Vegas; what it’s like to play at “The House” at Mandalay Bay; dealing with the adversity of dyslexia; and how the Aces have a chip on their shoulders heading into year two.

EPISODE 24: THE VEGAS YOU NEED

A’ja may or may not be addicted to the Big Apple Coaster at New York-New York.

Mark’s new favorite neighborhood restaurant is La Strega from one of our past All The Vegas guests, chef Gina Marinelli. He went on his birthday so you know he loves it.

Brock’s current Strip music obsession is the Bronx Wanderers at the Linq. You’re missing out if you haven’t caught this father-and-sons family act and their scorching band.
