  • Art: Zhiwan Cheung Virtual Residency at Rogers Art Loft

The Rogers Art Loft is transcending the bounds of space and time with its latest residency, for which artist Zhiwan Cheung will virtually connect with Las Vegas from China. The former Reading Rainbow book reviewer will host a variety of events on a spread of platforms: live interviews (June 30 and July 14 at 6 p.m.) and a studio visit (June 30, 2 p.m.), which Cheung will lead on Instagram, plus an artist talk (July 22 at 6 p.m.) on Zoom. During his seven-week residency, Cheung will also host a weekly Las Vegas-centric version of his Seeing Color podcast, complete with local guests. Rogersartloft.com. –C. Moon Reed

  • Show: Mystère reopens at Treasure Island

Maybe you have also been filling in the blank on this quickly-becoming-cliché statement: Las Vegas isn’t back until _____ is back. This week brings the return of one of the most obvious answers in this game of pandemic Mad Libs as Cirque du Soleil’s very first Las Vegas resident production show becomes the company’s first show to resume live performances. The ethereal, acrobatic Mystère, which originally debuted in 1993 in the same theater at Treasure Island, kicks off a stacked summer schedule of big-show comebacks. Get ready for goose bumps. Reopening June 28; Sunday-Tuesday, 7 p.m.; Friday-Saturday, 7 & 9:30 p.m.; $75-$136. Treasure Island, 702-894-7722, cirquedusoleil.com/mystere. –Brock Radke

  • Party: The Juan Maclean at Discopussy

Fans of James Murphy’s funky, atavistic LCD Soundsystem vibe should get Downtown for this DJ set by Murphy’s fellow DFA Records artist The Juan MacLean. MacLean—née John MacLean, formerly of 1990s hardcore group Six Finger Satellite—specializes in synth-driven dance jams that conjure dreams of top-of-his-game Giorgio Moroder melding his pop sensibilities to the great electronica wave of the 1990s. Even if MacLean’s set just skims the top of his influences, it’ll be great. With DJ Shaun, Tony Comfort Jones and Glitterdisco. June 25, 10 p.m., $20, 512 Fremont St., discopussydtlv.com. –Geoff Carter

  • Theater: 'The Children' staged reading at Clark County Library

A Public Fit’s staged readings at the library were a highlight of Las Vegas’ pre-pandemic theater scene. Performed by talented actors, they were a way for performers and viewers to experience a play without the cost and hassle of a full production. Now, the beloved local tradition returns with the critically acclaimed The Children by Lucy Kirkwood. It’s about married nuclear engineers living through an apocalypse who face an unexpected encounter with an old friend. After the performance, stay for the discussion, known as the Buzz. June 25, 7:30 p.m., free, 1401 E. Flamingo Road. RSVP at 702-507-3459 or at apublicfit.org. –C. Moon Reed

  • Reading: Bourbon Book Club at The Writer's Block

Stephen King’s The Shining is the latest pick for the Writer’s Block’s Bourbon Book Club, and you’re invited to check in. The story follows aspiring writer Jack Torrance and his family as they encounter sinister forces at the Overlook Hotel (cue the whiskey pour). The in-person event will be open to 15 attendees, and face masks are optional for those fully vaccinated. This is one of several book clubs the Writer’s Block has slated for the summer, so there’s ample opportunity to join in on some insightful discussions. June 24, 6 p.m., free, register at thewritersblock.org. –Amber Sampson
