Random act of happiness’ to hit Downtown

There’s an invasion coming to Fremont Street today. It’ll hit City Hall, the Smith Center, the Arts District and my apartment building. And it won’t be made up of tight-jeaned hipsters (at least not entirely), the homeless or a swarm of excessively social bees.

Today from 4-7 p.m., volunteers and Downtown supporters will gather and march to a series of local businesses and landmarks playing an important role in the redevelopment of Downtown. In a kind of communal morale boost, they’ll carry encouraging signs, shout positive messages and create a sort of goodwill parade, starting at the Beat, hitting Symphony Park and the Arts Factory and ending back at the El Cortez. Organized by the Delivering Happiness team, the event is being dubbed a “random act of happiness” and a show of appreciation for people working to revitalize Downtown. That’s my kind of invasion.
