As We See It

Strip zip lines as mass transit? Why not?

The journey down Las Vegas Boulevard is a long one (4.2 miles), but the trek might get easier soon. According to the Las Vegas Sun, a collection of Strip-side zip lines that would connect the Excalibur and Luxor is awaiting approval by the Federal Aviation Administration.

Although zip lines are generally thought of as thrill rides, we couldn’t resist the idea of using them as actual modes of transportation. Imagine casino execs zipping between properties in full suits; tourists getting off their feet for a zip between dinner and a show. More lines could be built along the Strip, letting visitors see the city Spider-Man-style, instead of crowding the Boulevard’s sidewalks.

Where our back-alley Monorail didn’t succeed in drawing the hordes, a quick trip down a cable that doubles as a Strip-side tour might fare better.

People come to Vegas for an experience, and gliding above the notorious neon would be more memorable than a night spent drinking, clubbing and gambling. There’ll still be plenty of time for all that, of course. Just after the most awesome taxi alternative in the world.
