The Las Vegas City Council last week refused to grant the Heart Attack Grill a permanent liquor license. The reason given: Authorities haven’t yet vetted all the restaurant’s investors, including Zappos CEO Tony Hsieh. No doubt this will soon be ironed out, but we’d like to point out the restaurant’s latest “victim” collapsed after eating, smoking … and drinking. Maybe a liquor license isn’t the best idea at a place with two-pound, 8,000-calorie burgers.

This just in—punishment is, well, punishing. According to attorneys for the recently jailed Floyd Mayweather Jr., the fighter’s health is declining in jail. Therefore, they’ve asserted, he should serve the remainder of his three-month sentence under house arrest. Regardless of the judge’s decision, it’s galling that our already-glutted legal system has to deal with crap like this: celebrities who live life like they’re above the law but are unable to cope with the consequences. Hey, Lindsay and Paris skated—why not Floyd?

Rock of Ages, Broadway’s long-running musical, will head to the Venetian in December. The production, set on the Sunset Strip, focuses on the music of the 1980s, particularly the power ballads and heavy-metal hits. Ordinarily we’d be a bit skeptical of such a show’s chances of success here, but Las Vegas has never had more of a concentration of hair-metal bands than right now. What’s old is truly new again in Vegas, and Rock should roll right along.
