Disappearing act
On the heels of the General Services Administration’s lavish party at the M Resort, which included a mind reader, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration this week pulled a $5,000 ad for a magician it intended to use to motivate its employees at a training event. It’s probably the wise and prudent move, but it got us thinking—how many mind readers and magicians was our government employing before the GSA scandal broke? And while we’re at it, let’s add jugglers, clowns and singing telegrams to that list.

Recycled trash
It’s baaaaaack. Well, sorta. Rena Riffel, who appeared as Penny in the original trash classic Showgirls, has written, directed, edited and produced Showgirls 2: Penny’s From Heaven—oh yeah, she also stars in it. It cost about $30,000 and is currently available on both Amazon and the film’s official website, showgirls2movie.com. It seems inconceivable that anyone would want to reenter the world of arguably one of the worst films ever made, but in a way, that’s what really makes us want to watch it.

Hands off the wheel
This week, Nevada issued the country’s first license to test self-driving cars on public roads. After successful demonstrations of its cars in Carson City and on the Las Vegas Strip, Google got the go-ahead to test its technology. During the test phase, the cars will have red plates. Once they’re on the market, the plates will be changed to green. Our main question: What will this do to our insurance liability? After all, if we’re not driving and we hit something or someone, we’re no longer at fault, right?
