Conversation starters: Elton John loses his temper at Caesars and more

    • Sir brat

This just in from the “should surprise no one” files: Elton John lost his temper during a recent performance at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace. In addition to starting the show 20 minutes late and ending it 25 minutes early, John reportedly hurled profanities at his management team, splashed water on the stage, tossed a stool and said nothing to the audience or band. Did we mention Sir Elton got a five-minute ovation despite not returning? Seems the audience loves him no matter what he does.

    • Harm of the law

Just when we thought police work couldn’t get any more dangerous: During a house-to-house and yard-to-yard chase of a knife-wielding suspect, a Las Vegas Metro officer was attacked ... by one of the department’s own K-9s. Another officer had to shoot the dog, which underwent emergency surgery and remains in critical condition, and the officer has been hospitalized. At a time when so many officers are under fire for questionable decisions in the field, it’s worth noting that even an animal carefully trained to recognize criminals made a mistake in the chaos of the moment.

    • Never too old to learn

NFL linebacker Andra Davis can add one more thing to his resume: college graduate. The 33-year-old Davis received his bachelor’s degree in social science studies from UNLV, even taking part in commencement ceremonies. Turns out he took online courses and completed an internship at a Las Vegas public charter school for at-risk students. The future of Davis’ NFL career is uncertain, but we certainly applaud him for doing everything he can to make sure he has a future after football. Now that’s a sports figure we’d call a real role model.
