HRC report: Local companies maintain corporate equality excellence

Last week the Human Rights Campaign released its annual Corporate Equality Index, rating large and successful American companies on LGBT initiatives.

Of the 781 businesses surveyed, a record-breaking 366 earned perfect scores this year. Four of those “Best Places to Work for LGBT Equality” are based in Las Vegas: Caesars Entertainment, MGM Resorts, the Cosmopolitan and Wynn Resorts.

The HRC’s criteria for CEI scores include a company’s transgender-inclusive benefits, its public commitment to the LGBT community, its diversity and organizational competency practices and the inclusion of sexual orientation and gender identity in its non-discrimination policies.

This equality excellence isn’t a new thing. This year’s CEI marks the eighth 100 percent rating for Caesars (2008-2010 as Harrah’s), fifth for Wynn, third for MGM and second for the Cosmopolitan. The Tropicana and NV Energy are also listed in the CEI again this year, with 90 and 70 percent ratings, respectively.
