AVN 2015: A wine tasting at the porn convention?

Penthouse Pets Ryan Ryans and Jayden Cole make special appearances at Life Nightclub tonight, but they won’t be the only part of the Penthouse family on display. Lines of both wine and spirits branded with the Penthouse name make their Vegas debut at the SLS space this evening, during a Penthouse- and Topco Sales-hosted pre-party for tomorrow night’s AVN Awards.

But adult film fans (and porny B2Bers) at the Adult Entertainment Expo are serving as the quality-assurance test team this weekend, as Penthouse booked a booth in the Joint to show off their new boozy endeavor. Weekly was onsite checking out the latest in adult innovations (3D porn video games?!), but couldn’t pass up the opportunity for a wine tasting at the planet’s biggest porn convention. Our thoughts:

“The Blonde” Sparkling White Wine

Maybe slightly too carbonated, but still light and refreshing without the syrupy sweetness that usually accompanies bottom-shelf bubbly and wines that have novelty names like “The Blonde” …

Pinot Noir

I don’t know why I was expecting Boone’s Farm quality, but I was pleasantly surprised with this sip. Made in Australia’s “primo Pinot area” (says Penthouse Wine Estates’ Randal Tomich, a third-generation Aussie winemaker), the full-bodied pour had almost a cherry-like sweetness at the end and a crisp finish. –Mark Adams

Whiskey Tequila Fusion

Whoever told you mixing liquor makes you sicker clearly hasn’t had this. The new blend tastes far better than it sounds—with a bold kick of American whiskey followed by the spicy bite of Mexican tequila, it’s sweet enough to drink alone—but like everything else, it’s better with a partner. –Leslie Ventura
