It’s “f--king Fabulous!” tout festival reps. Amsterdam-based Art of Dance is bringing its Fabulous Festival to the U.S., and the Weekly will be at the Orleans Arena on November 1, glowsticks in-hand. Promising “no ropes, no lines, no hassles,” Fabulous Las Vegas aims to be an alternative to the rigid policies of some of the megaclubs in town. We repeat, “aims.”

“We’re bringing the European festival vibe to the United States,” says Art of Dance’s U.S. director Pedi Amiri, formerly of Teatro Afterhours. “Essentially, it’s nightlife meets Coachella for an evening.” It may be one of the largest dance-music events we’ve seen in Las Vegas, and Amiri says one of the goals of Fabulous is to bring together multiple dance-music genres and cultural movements.

The event will have both indoor and outdoor stages with sets by Armin van Buuren, Deadmau5, MSTRKRFT, Bad Boy Bill and Crystal Castles, to name a few. Amiri says the sound and lighting components are going to be “outstanding,” and teases us with promises that there will be “narratives between artists that are going to feature some very unusual forms of entertainment.” Mmmmmmkay.

Come on out!

National Coming Out Day is October 11, and multiple celebrations are planned in Las Vegas this year. NCOD began in 1988 to commemorate a march on Washington, D.C., the year prior, in which 500,000 people marched to gain equal rights for gay and lesbian individuals. The LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender/transsexual) community celebrates gay pride on this day, and many choose NCOD to come out of the closet to friends, family, co-workers and even themselves.

“We are having a street festival outside on Paradise between Tropicana and Harmon in the Fruit Loop,” says Johnny Bacon, owner of Joba Media (his company includes websites such as GayVegas.com). From 8 p.m. to midnight, the all-ages event will include food, midway-style games for children and a live entertainment lineup that Bacon says will be revealed the week prior to the event. “It’s very family-oriented,” he says, and a great opportunity for people who have kids and don’t go clubbing. “It’s nice to see lesbian mothers and gay fathers out at the festival.” There will also be assorted vendor booths, including the Kim Vo Salon, doing celebrity-style makeovers and spray-on tanning, and AFAN (Aid for AIDS of Nevada), which will be out educating the public. “I think it’s a great chance to come out and support the community,” says Bacon. “Not just for the gay community,” he adds, but also for family members and friends. Another festival will be held on October 11 at Commercial Center, at 953 East Sahara near the Gay and Lesbian Community Center of Southern Nevada. “The main thing is coming out to celebrate coming out of the closet,” says Earl Shelton, editor of QVegas magazine. Shelton says the event begins at 8 p.m., and for their seventh year of celebration, they’ve added an all-new dance tent where DJ Danny G will be spinning. Numerous performers and vendors will be at the event, including gay and gay-friendly businesses (for a complete list, visit ncodvegas.com). The event features a special appearance by Ultra Naté, who will also perform later that night at Krave nightclub’s NCOD party.

Johnny Bacon says the individual nightclubs in the Fruit Loop will each have special afterparty events for NCOD. Over at Krave, not only will Ultra Naté perform, but Gary Nesta Pine and DJ Escape as well. CandyBar will feature appearances by some of the Suicide Girls who are openly gay. Groove on the move

Late Night is movin’ on up. “Because the demand is so high, we’re going to be moving it from Tabu to Studio 54,” explains Anthony Olheiser, MGM Grand’s director of nightlife. The afterhours event is slated to begin at its new home on October 11. “We’re going to go after Saturdays, instead of doing Fridays and Saturdays,” Olheiser says of the event which, when it launched, spanned both nights at Tabu. Vegas Alliance’s Gino LoPinto doesn’t want to detract from the Late Night event and feels focusing on one night will build excitement. “I want everybody to concentrate, go out and buy their outfit and look forward to Saturday at 54 at 3 a.m.” Locals receive complimentary admission, and Cedric Gervais will be spinning for the grand-opening party next Saturday.
