Three reasons why Stephen Wesley's CD release and birthday party was better than whatever you did Friday night:

1. Strip (the noun, not the verb) Karaoke. Hawaiian Tropic Zone hosts empty orchestra (that’s the Japanese translation of ‘karaoke’) on its Las Vegas Boulevard patio, and (at least on Friday nights) it stipulates "upbeat songs only." This means you still have to listen to people butcher "Sex on Fire" and several songs by that diva Beyonce, but at least you aren't subjected to any "I Believe I Can Fly." Perhaps that's why local musician Stephen Wesley chose this Planet Hollywood hotspot for his CD release party. The pop singer did briefly appear on American Idol, the fanciest karaoke stage ever created, before his past felony made him ineligible to continue in the competition. Wesley took the stage with a friend for a spirited performance of Usher's "Yeah."

Wee Man knows how to get down. Wee Man knows how to get down.

2. Wee Man. The Jackass personality partied in full effect with Wesley and crew Friday night. For karaoke, he chose "Cum on Feel the Noize," and the audience practically lit up the Strip with a flurry of cell phone camera flashes as they took photos. During Wesley's performance of "Yeah," Wee Man gyrated, lifting his shirt and rubbing his chest. He was definitely feeling the noise.

We're not sure what this dance move is called, but we like it! We're not sure what this dance move is called, but we like it!

3. Impromptu dance off. Right next to the HTZ patio an impromptu break dancing circle formed and a select few showed off their dance moves. One of the participants, a Minnesotan attending the University of Utah and in Vegas for the weekend told me he had no idea who the rest of the dancing dudes were. "I just knew I had to get in on that," he said. Perhaps the group, which included a guy wearing a cowboy hat and boots, just figured it was an appropriate accompaniment for the not-so-stunning rendition of "Ice Ice Baby" going on in the background.
