There’s a great moment in the ’80s John Hughes comedy The Great Outdoors, where John Candy’s character is asked what he sees when he looks at a forest: “Uh, I just see … trees.” For me, that scene defines the outdoorsman, someone who just wants to leave the logical world behind for a week or two and enjoy what nature gave us. And this weekend, thousands of outdoorsmen (and women) will visit the Valley to celebrate that very feeling during the International Sportsmen’s Exposition, a highly successful event making its Las Vegas debut. In addition to the latest products for fishing, hunting, off-roading and adventure travel, the ISE offers family-friendly activities, including a rock-climbing wall, three-dimensional-target archery range, 40-foot-long aquarium demo tank and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation’s annual World Elk-Calling Championship. You may not see many trees at this event, but you can certainly leave the logical world behind for a while.
