Emerge, the second-year festival bringing social justice, art and music to the forefront of cultural consciousness, will kick off its 2019 program with HopeXHuman. Combining high-energy performers with craft cocktails, the May 31 event will aim to foster serious conversations fueled by joyful flavors.

Emerge is centered around four themes, and HopeXHuman has a cocktail for each: Protest (Origen Raiz mezcal, strawberry, rhubarb, basel, seltzer, lime juice); Brave (Bluecoat American dry gin, lychee liqueur, prickly pear, lime juice, Angostura soda); Self (Avua Cachaca Prata, kiwi, coconut water, lime juice); and Sex (La Diablada pisco, Solerno blood orange liqueur, grapefruit, lime juice.

“We’re putting together a culinary cocktail experience curated by some of Las Vegas’ most creative minds that will take you on a cultural journey with emerging libations from around the world,” says Paige Darensbourg of Breakthru Beverage. “The spirits have been selected for their unique characteristics and flavor that embody the four themes of the festival.”

Musicians playing at the event, who will be picking up Emerge’s broader themes, include Bishop Briggs, Yoke Lore, Ladies of LCD Soundsystem and Marian Hill. The festival’s cause-based collaborators include Human Rights Campaign Las Vegas, Musicians on Call, Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights, Communities in Schools (Nevada chapter), World Wildlife Foundation, F*ck Cancer, Proclaim Justice, Planned Parenthood Votes Nevada, Define America and the Music Forward Foundation.

In essence, attendees will be enjoying cocktails infused with meaning—progressive movements and enjoyable experiences do not necessarily have to be mutually exclusive, after all. “We want people to experience what a hopeful, joyful world tastes like,” Emerge creator Rehan Choudhry says.

HopeXHuman at Emerge May 31, 9 p.m., Hard Rock Hotel.
