DIGITAL TONY: 2 Live Live

Free locals night at Ice

Antonio Llapur

One of the best ways my generation pissed off our parents was by cranking up the stereo to the fun-loving and family-friendly poetry of 2 Live Crew. My mom, a sweet lady who didn't speak much English, hated them. And I remember the lectures my old school chum Robby's mother would give us about Mr. Campbell and the lowest common denominator. She was probably correct, but who cares, right?

Be sure to use that rebellious nostalgia Friday at 1 a.m. (yeah, we know—technically Saturday) as 2 Live Crew takes the stage at OPM at Chinois inside the Forum Shops at Caesars Palace. It's the latest stop on their Freaky Chinese Tour.

Saturday, don't miss locals night at Ice. Catch music from DJs Candyman, Joey Mazzola, Chris Monaco and Adam. Best of all, no cover with local ID! With the holidays eating every piece of green in your pocket, there's nothing better than a free party. Be sure to thank the groovy crew at Ice for all their local love.

Stubbs Makes '80s Tasty

I bet many of you out there think that to be a big-time DJ, you have to be from Europe or something. I used to think like that—until I met Scott Stubbs.

Stubbs has been making Vegas his home for years. For even longer, he has been a sought-after and successful DJ, playing mega-clubs and raves across the globe. Locally, you can catch him banging on the turntables at his very own Friday night Lust after-hours at Mandalay Bay's super-sweet OBA Lounge at the House of Blues. He's also produced a number of tracks and mixes available in music stores everywhere, a major feat any way you look at it, including his latest: 80s Remixed from Nockturnel records, his own label.

Stubbs has done the impossible; he's produced a remix of '80s tunes that doesn't make me want to vomit. In fact, this mix rocks. Frankie Goes to Hollywood and Def Leopard are blaring out of my speakers and I actually want to get up and dance! Stubbs mixes his trance sensibilities and beats with classic rock chords and riffs in a highly effective and fun way. His use of trance and Midnight Oil is one of the best meshings of the two genres since Paul Oakenfold mixed around with Led Zeppelin's "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" on his Another World in 2000.

So hit the stores and support your local DJ.

Me Thankie You Long Time

I just wanted to lay down a big giant thanks to the super folks at Studio 54 and all of my insanely dynamite friends and fans who made my big 3-0 a birthday for the ages. You guys all rock the casbah!
