THE DREAM ZONE

with Lauri Quinn Loewenberg

I went to see my mother-in law at her nursing home but she'd committed suicide. My sister-in-law was very angry, saying I shouldn't be there. I went to my mother-in law's room to rest, but was too upset. Being yelled at unjustly by my sister-in law, whom I like very much, left me baffled.

Mary, 57

Lauri: Something in your life may be getting old and needs to end, symbolized by the retirement home. Suicide also indicates an ending, but, unlike natural death, is a choice to die. What are you "choosing" to end? Part of you is tired of needing rest, yet another, symbolized by your sister-in law, says you've no right to entertain these thoughts. You couldn't rest, which might tell you you're not ready to "kill off" this part of your life yet.

Mary replies: We just came to our "retirement" place in Mexico, where everyone is retired except my husband and me. Last year, I felt too young to retire. This year it's more on my mind. Maybe I equate retirement with death.

I just found your column in the Weekly. I read your advice to "Security Sensitive in GA" and it really rang a chord with me. I feel it's time for a major change in my life, but I'm not sure where to turn.

I'm a 66-year-old ex-actress/model/singer/dancer, now semi-retired (but still a size 10) with my own part-time PR business. I'm also a 12-year breast cancer survivor and had a TV talk show about health here in Las Vegas.

My dream job is to be an ambassador for good health and well-being and to host another health-related TV show. I've considered trying to contact Oprah about my dream, but haven't as yet.

I'm also at a crossroads with my personal relationship: The man with whom I've been living continually makes financial demands on me I can't meet, which is adversely affecting our relationship. I want to move out and be on my own again. Friends have offered to let me stay with them until I get on my feet again. My plan is to move out after the holidays.

My grandmother was psychic and I have a bit of a gift, but I can't seem to "see" for myself. Can you help me? Do you see or feel anything for me?

Oldie but Goodie

Dear OBG,

You resonate to the number eight in day-to-day dealings and your birth path is a six. Eight is the number of balance, karma, fame, success, wealth and struggle—you're aware of your potential, yet it's always taken you more work than the average person to get what you want. The softening side of all this is that your birth path is a six, which means you operate on the highest vibration there is: love. Any time you have tried to work your will in one direction (a.k.a., doing things the hard way) a door has flown open for you in a different direction. That's the blessing of the number six birth-path—love coming out of the blue to help you.

I see that you'll end the relationship with the man in your life and it's important that you're unencumbered by the first of the year. Tell your friends who have generously offered their support that you'll only need their help for about six weeks. Remember that this offer of help is something you deserve, a little karmic payback for all the giving you've done for others. I'm happy you've put yourself in a situation where you're letting someone help you for a change. The lesson until the end of February is to learn how to let other people help you.

In particular, there's a woman with light hair and eyes who'll be helpful to you in 2005. She's a gentle spirit and has the resources to help your career. In addition, see if you can get involved with the Nevada Advertising Federation or the Nevada Broadcasting Association. I'd like you to eventually be an officer or a volunteer in some way—it's important that your voice be stronger.

Remember: You set a wonderful example of how to stay vibrant, vital and beautiful. Women want to have your energy and loveliness. Theres a PR opportunity with one of the hospitals or health-care agencies where you're the face of wellness. I also see you doing TV commercials for one of the big pharmaceutical companies, health clubs or insurance organizations. Tape a mock commercial (if you don't already have one) and present it to one of the companies listed above, or compile a demo tape of your previous TV appearances.

Your karmic responsibility is to show people that life really can begin at any age.

Note to my readers: There are two local charities that have my ongoing support: Help of Southern Nevada and AFAN. If you enjoy this column, I encourage you to send an anonymous donation to one of these fine organizations during the holiday season—especially if I've answered your question through this column, my Fox-5 appearances, or my radio program.

Thank you!
