DIGITAL TONY: The Plush Life

Summerlin’s new club for locals

Antonio Llapur

New super joint Plush had its official opening last weekend all the way out in Summerlin at the JW Marriott. I'm sure the question on everybody's lips is "A club in Summerlin? Can that work?" Well, so far, so good.

Plush is brought to you by the creators of LA's famous Key Club. While that does not guarantee success in Vegas, Plush's location is so far from every other spot in town that the LA flavor kinda works. Plush isn't designed to wow the tourist but rather to draw back the local clientele. The overall design is elegant, yet slightly reserved. There's none of the glitz and glamour of the spots on the Strip; instead, Plush gives off a vibe that is both laid back and upscale.

Another plus is that it isn't merely a nightclub. There's a gourmet restaurant, and an ultralounge and bar that are perfect for Summerlin yuppies and their after-work cocktails and post-golfing booze sessions. Plus, there's a stage set up for musical acts, so don't be surprised if you start seeing big-name talent showing up for a gig. And, let's not forget about the swanky poolside patio. Should be a wonderful place to spend an evening once the weather cooks up a bit.

I went to the grand opening Friday (a soft opening went off on New Year's Eve). There was free food and booze, live music and a seemingly unending mass of people and slimy media types (gotta know what you are, kids). Everyone turned out for the festivities, and to be honest, there were so many people that I wondered if any fire codes had been broken.

Plush's lounge and restaurant are open daily from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m., with the actual club kicking off late Friday and Saturday nights.

Only time will tell if the Vegas public will go for Plush. But judging from the reception Friday, I think it can work. Still, there can be a world of difference between a gala opening and actual performance. I guess I'll just have to go back for a follow-up story.

So late, it's early

I'm the type of kat who looks after his friends, so do me a favor and go support some old pals, DJ Freddy and DJ Caleb, who've put together this new, little after-hours called Breathe at the Chez Moi for Friday and Saturday late-nights. Chez Moi is this nifty nudie bar that recently opened up on the corner of Russell and Industrial.

I was planning on stopping by even before hearing about my friends' gig, based on Chez Moi's wacky neon sign that can be seen from the I-15. It reads: "Chez Moi—The Avant-Gardes Cabaret" How in the hell could I pass up advertising like that?.

After-hours goes every Friday and Saturday, from 4 a.m. till noon the next day. After Alesium or Drai's, stop by to fulfill that after-after-hours void left from the end of Glo. It's only five bucks for local guys and $10 for touristy types. Ladies, of course, are admitted free.
