DIGITAL TONY: Alternative Reality

Reality show about Ice debuts on Spike

Antonio Llapur

I'm not the biggest fan of reality shows. I don't care who got voted off what island, or where Paris and Nicole are driving to next. Granted, the brilliant Cops is the OG, but I'd like to see most reality shows shot into oblivion.

Now comes Spike TV's The Club, a behind-the-scenes look at our very own Ice metaclub. Produced by the same team that did The Restaurant and The Casino, it follows Ice owner Ed Williams, marketing director Marc Jay, Hollywood-transplant promoter Allison Melnick, and the entire staff as they try to bring the only freestanding major nightclub to the top of the Vegas scene.

I'm not sure if it's my closeness to the subject or the show's overall quality, but I enjoyed it. Even though I'm pretty keen to how a club operates, I still found myself engrossed. I was impressed with Williams' ambitions to make Ice the first publicly traded nightclub and I enjoyed the staff's holiday at Lake Mead.

The Club isn't without its clichés. Every show has its crazy bitch. Omarosa, Jerri, and now Allison. All she manages to do is piss everyone off.

Ice kicked off the launch with a great red-carpet premiere Wednesday. It was fun to see the staff so jazzed. Plus, Ice couldn't ask for better exposure. Just ask the Palms. I got you a scoop, too! I ran into Ice director Mike Fuller and he said, "Episode five is when it gets really good." How good? Ice has undergone some major shake-ups recently and an almost total housecleaning of the staff. Great thing is, they got it all on tape ... including a middle-of-the-night office raid. The Club airs 9 p.m., Wednesdays.

Bevy of Beauties

Victoria Secret's Angels Across America Tour hit town with Tyra, Giselle and the rest of those only-first-name-needed beauties. Yes, they're gorgeous, and yes, I plan on marrying at least two of them, but they didn't excite me the most. Nope, that came from the Black Eyed Peas at Rain Nightclub Thursday. They were sensational in their dynamite, albeit brief performance. At least I think they were. I was so hypnotized by the bootie-shaking brilliance that is Fergie that I might have forgotten to listen.

Five-Year Mark

My Sunday guest shot on DJ Hollywood's radio show, Hollywood Boulevard, coincided with its five-year anniversary, making it the longest-running live mix show in Vegas radio history. Major congratulations and here's to another five!
