DEUCE BIGALOW: EUROPEAN GIGOLO

Martin Stein

Deuce, the man-whore, is back, answering all the fervent prayers of those who miss Pauly Shore. In this sequel to the 1999 hit, Deuce finds himself in Amsterdam where his pimp-buddy, T.J. Hicks, has set up shop in a pimped-out barge. A gigolo-killer is on the loose, and after T.J. is implicated, Deuce has to figure out which disgruntled client is the true murderer.

Of course, it's all a setup for a series of scenes in which Schneider is paired up with the most bizarre women imaginable, including his love interest. Along with the dates, all of which have the moral to treat women well, there are various jokes at the expense of Europeans and North American tourists. Drastically out of place is one scene in which a Frenchman attacks Deuce for America's involvement in Iraq. You can almost smell the writers' sweat as they try to make it over-the-top enough to work—and failing.

The gross meter is off the scale and the physical comedy occasionally works, but overall, the film's utter lack of intelligence and wit makes you wish the crew had never cleared customs.
