Fab Four Mania recalls magic of the Beatles

Paul Szydelko

For a vivid reminder of the talent of the Beatles, Fab Four Mania offers a hard-to-resist tribute. The four talented musicians make it look effortless, yet you know a lot of study and love have gone into each rendition.

With the group's meticulous attention to detail, it's easy to imagine yourself watching the Beatles, from early, intimate shows in Liverpool and Hamburg, to the band's appearances on "The Ed Sullivan Show," to stadium concerts and finally, to raucous (and unbelievably creative) studio sessions.

The members perform all the music themselves—no backup, no prerecorded material and no high-tech wizardry. Just a simple tribute to a complex band. In between songs, fun banter shows a humility and playfulness the Beatles frequently exhibited onstage. Band members don't take themselves too seriously, yet they pay homage to the music. An impersonator of Ed Sullivan adds to the '60s atmosphere that pervades the concert.

Among the memorable performances are "Twist and Shout," "A Day in the Life" and "Hey, Jude." You could hear a pin drop when the group performed Lennon's hit "Imagine" as a poignant tribute to the singer, marking the 25th anniversary of his violent death.

To hear the soundtrack of your life, Fab Four Mania will have you humming, singing, clapping, waving and, yes, fondly recalling "Yesterday."
