Voodoo Redo

If you visited the Voodoo Lounge last Thursday for the Weekly's second Cover Model Search then, A) we have photographic evidence, and B) you must have seen the renovations done to the bar on the 51st floor. "Close to $2 million" is the most Manager Dennis Carvalho would say about the price tag of the new serpentine construction that can now accommodate between 35 and 50 bodies at five bartender stations. Eight designs and colors have been programmed into the translucent bar top and back bar to add visual appeal. "It's so much easier; it's so much more accessible all around," he says, and that means more precious real estate from which to purchase those smoking Witchdoctor drinks that will have you looking up at the bar from the floor. The next Weekly Cover Model Search will be July 6 at Tao.

A Lively Club

The Empire Ballroom continues to prove it's the pretty-fair-sized club that can under the skilled stewardship of Gino LoPinto. Memorial Day saw the former Club Utopia suffering from an embarrassment of riches as staffers had to kick Prince off stage after an extended second show to make room for DJ Tiesto. So how do they follow that? How about the return of one of the world's top DJs, Paul Oakenfold, on his A Lively Mind tour? Catch him July 6 in the Weekly and July 8 for the club's World Cup Finals bash. In the words of LoPinto: "Goooooooooooal!"

In Summerlin, You Say?

You may think you've been to the Red Rock Casino if you've checked out Cherry nightclub and DJ Skribble's Sunday pool party but the swank resort has more to offer. With Catherine Bingue-Hawkins in charge of the lounges, you can catch some of your favorite local DJs all month long. Spinning at Rock's Lounge Thursdays at midnight is Miss Joy, Fridays at 2 a.m. is Michael Toast and Saturdays at 1:30 a.m. see DJ Supra. DJ Mestizo takes over the turntables at 9 p.m. at the Lucky Bar, mashing it up old- school on vinyl.

Hometown Hero

Local DJ Faarsheed is having a pretty good summer. A flurry of activity surrounds the 28-year-old as he prepares to celebrate his two-year anniversary at Ice with a White Party on July 15. But more honors are in store as the Empire Ballroom readies to launch Faarsheed Fridays around the hardworking Late Night Empire resident. Each Friday, Faarsheed will present a different theme beginning July 7 with Blackout. To top this, he'll have to either get a star in the Vegas Walk of Fame or receive the key to the city from Mayor Oscar Goodman.
