The executioner would go down the line and ask each person if he wanted to be shot in the head or heart. When he got to me I chose the head. I could feel the cold steel of the gun against my temple. Before he pulled the trigger I grabbed the gun and said, "Hold on, hold on ..." and I woke up. – David, 59, Pearland, TX Lauri: Retirement is like a death in that it is the end of your working life. You are being given a choice of where to be shot because —to a degree—retirement is a choice. But it seems you were having an inner battle between your rational reasons to retire (getting shot in the head) and your emotional ties to your job and co-workers (getting shot in the heart). You chose to get shot in the head, which indicates your desire to be rational rather than emotional with this decision. But then you "hold" the gun and say, "hold on." You must've seriously been thinking about putting your retirement on "hold" at that point. What was keeping you from "pulling the trigger" on your retirement? David replies: Your interpretation of my dream helped me understand it from a different light. I had told a few of my co-workers about my execution dream, and they said that my job was killing me, so if you don't mind I am going to share your interpretation with them.
