Mash-up

Moorea’s back in the mix

It’s been a few years since we were able to queue up under the swaying palms for a night of partying poolside under the stars at Mandalay Bay’s opulent and exclusive Moorea Beach, cocktail in hand, feet in sand. Once gone but never quite forgotten, Moorea Beach will be revived this summer as both a daytime and nighttime party destination, thanks to Angel Music Group, parent company to Godskitchen and Global Gathering. Officially beginning July 17, hardy partiers can once again enjoy the splendors of the Moorea Beach pool complex every Tuesday from noon to 10-ish p.m. and groove to the sounds of resident DJs Scotty Boy and Shift spinning rock, ’80s, mash-ups and house. “It’s a really comfortable, relaxing Tuesday. This place hasn’t been locals-friendly for a long time, and we want to change that,” says Randy Davila of the Angel Music Group. Hence, locals are free! Flipping the script

The Rock Room at Jet was the admitted red-headed stepchild of the chic club until recently, when it received a lot of attention in the form of a complete renovation. To celebrate, Monday nights will see Jet’s resident DJs Faarsheed, Eddie McDonald and Chris Garcia spinning house music there. The room and promotion will be called 3400—in reference to the Mirage’s address—and will feature a once-monthly guest DJ playing to an intimate crowd. Very intimate, as the smallest of Jet’s rooms holds only 150 people. Soft-opening on July 23 and with a grand opening to follow, 3400 takes full advantage of the room’s new elevated DJ booth, half-moon VIP tables and addition of a door affording direct access to the restrooms. Clubber beware: So exclusive will this party-within-a-party be that 3400 will have its own guest list and promotional team.

Rock stars wanted

Yes, that means you. House of Blues Las Vegas is taking karaoke to the next level. Every Monday until Labor Day on the Courtyard Stage, American Idol wannabes, Star Search dropouts and tourists aplenty will battle in the First Annual Karaoke Tournament of Champions. The 10-week singalong tournament showcases 12 of the best vocalists; semifinalists will compete for the grand prize of $1,000 cash, a night’s stay at Mandalay Bay, dinner for two in the House of Blues Foundation Room and two tickets to any concert through the end of 2007. This isn’t just a sound box with back-up vocals, either. Each singer will perform with the live in-house rock band. Admission is free, but to get rules and info, go to www.hob.com.

Wing women

Bachelor parties are abundant, and we have dozens of packages around town to choose from. No surprise that Hooters has thrown its card into the cleavage. One of the more appealing things about the concept (besides not being embarrassed by your college buddies when they are face-down drunk at 4 p.m.) is the freedom.

The “build-a-bash” offers a core set of the usual Hooters fixings but lets the soon-to-be-hubbies choose their party à la carte. Labeled You’re Not the Boss of Me, it lets you be in complete control of your last stand as a man. After you’re done with wings, beer and your own limo, Hooters takes care of all the details and add-ons your fiancée could possibly be paranoid about. The Putts and Whackers addition is an all-encompassing golf package, and the We’re So High addendum, believe it or not, is legal. It makes even the lowest man on the totem pole feel like a high roller, with the option of renting out your own gaming table, from poker to blackjack. Of course, there is a gentlemen’s club tour available, and even a spa option so you can hopefully hide abuse when you head back home to lie to the missus. To book, call 800-522-7366.

If you build it, they will come (and drink)

The drink geniuses behind UltimateBarChef.com have come up with an even more creative way to imbibe—and a perfect way to make any event special. You can now have drink aficionados Sean and Lisa Bigley and their crack team of mixologists make your own personalized and signature cocktail online. Launched last week, www.signaturecocktails.com is an online service that brings your specially blended cocktail directly to you. It’s the perfect gift, or just a unique party favor. Patrons can sign up for a variety of different packages ranging from $49.99 (the creation and recipe instruction cards) to $149.99 (three custom cocktails, cards and help with planning the quantity of ingredients needed for the event). After filling out a survey to find out what kind of an event it is (a wedding is different from a bachelorette party), the type of taste you like (sweet, sour, bitter) and the color (even down to edible gold or silver flakes) you got yourself one tasty tailor-made libation.
