County Corruption trial: Not Erin Kenny this time

Damon Hodge

Where is she? When’s she expected? When’s she going to testify?

Standing sentry at the banister, the prosecutor warily fielded the woman’s questions: Why was she asking? What was her motive?

Didn’t much matter—he had no clue when former county commissioner Erin Kenny would be called to testify in real estate consultant Don Davidson’s conspiracy trial.

The inquiring woman could have leaned over the banister, touched famed local lawyer Dominic Gentile and asked him to ask Davidson, his client, about Kenny.

Cavorting with her zoning matters is why he’s in this mess; he allegedly paid her more than $200,000. Other charges against him include fraud and money laundering.

Perhaps because Davidson isn’t a former strip-club mogul, his trial has been low-key. He’s not the “get” that Michael Galardi was, or that Kenny and fellow criminal commissioners Dario Herrera and Mary Kincaid-Chauncey were.

As such, Friday’s crowd numbered fewer than 10. John Hui’s testimony about his relationship with Davidson lacked headline-grabbing revelations. Was Davidson his surrogate before the county commission? Hui struggled with recall.

During a break in testimony, Davidson got up.

The inquiring woman approached him. Would she ask about Kenny? She didn’t. He probably wouldn’t have answered anyway.
