Oh, I’d have done it anyway. But the fact that I was barbacking for Mayor Oscar Goodman’s 70th birthday made last Friday night all the more memorable. There on the Fremont Street Experience, in the 100-plus-degree heat of the tourist throng, I speared olives and stacked Bombay Sapphire cocktail glasses for my fellow United States Bartenders Guild members. In the end, I’m not sure which was saltier, the olives or we crazy few. In case you missed it, here it is, the Good-Man Martini, the Official Martini of Las Vegas: 2 parts chilled Bombay Sapphire Gin, 1 part chilled Bombay Sapphire Gin, a quick glance at the dry vermouth that will not be going into the glass and two blue cheese-stuffed olives, preferably on the side, “so as not to take up too much space.”
