Hot Spots: RL Grime at XS, Steve Aoki at Hakkasan and more

Giving us goosebumps: RL Grime DJs at XS this weekend.

Ferry Corsten at Marquee Currently, the Dutch trance pioneer and his beloved German colleague Markus Schulz are on tour as new “high-energy DJ duo” New World Punx, visiting every major U.S. clubbing capital ... except Las Vegas. As Julia Roberts once said, big mistake. However, Ferry, if during your Friday set you should drop “Galaxia” and transport us back to those ol’ Club Utopia days, we might forgive you—or just save our ire for Markus’ next Marquee appearance. November 21, 10 p.m., $50 men, $20 women.

Latin Grammy Afterparty at LAX On Thursday, the Latin Recording Academy will honor the hottest names in Spanish and Portuguese music from around the globe. Join the fun at this star-studded post-party featuring a live performance by reggaeton artist J. Alvarez, a DJ set by Nelson and appearances by Crooked Stilo, Fito Blanko and others. November 21, doors at 10:30 p.m., $30 men, $20 women.

Mustache Bash at Gold Mine Tavern Celebrating No Shave November? Head down to the Henderson watering hole Saturday night, as a portion of the night’s proceeds benefits the men’s health-related Movember Foundation. Unlimited craft brews and tacos will be available for a modest fee, and your furry face just might earn you your money back—the night’s best ’stache takes home $50. Not growing facial hair? Don’t fret: Gold Mine will have free fake mustaches for everyone. November 23, 6-9 p.m., free, $20 for all-you-can-eat-and-drink.

Brody Jenner at Hyde While the son of Olympian Bruce Jenner (the man!) is now occasionally seen on E!’s Keeping Up With the Kardashians, we can’t forget his not-so-humble, drama-infested beginnings on MTV’s The Hills. The bro of all bros hosts Hyde Saturday night—better get that Affliction T-shirt dry-cleaned. November 23, doors at 10 p.m., $30 men, $20 women.

RL Grime at XS That name sound familiar? The EDM-meets-hip-hop producer/DJ needed a moniker for his new musical project, and looked no further than one of his favorite childhood authors, Goosebumps series creator R.L. Stine, for inspiration. When a fan made the connection on Twitter, so did Grime and Stine, and the tweet-meet led to the latter contributing voiceovers to the former’s Halloween mixtape from last month. Which is cool, but we ask: What’s next—hardstyle DJs sampling dialogue from The Baby-Sitters Club? November 23, 10 p.m., $30 men, $20 women.

Steve Aoki at Hakkasan The LA DJ’s high-energy sets often include him leaving the booth for a little crowd-surfing—sometimes in a blown-up pool raft. So what will Aoki pull Sunday night at Hakkasan, when he celebrates the big 3-6? Well, we all know what he’ll do with his birthday cake. November 24, doors at 10 p.m., $30 men, $20 women.

Bass Gravy at E-String Grill & Poker Bar Henderson isn’t usually a destination for great parties, but this 18-and-up bass bash ought to reach capacity fast, especially with LA drum ’n’ bass faves Slogun & iOh on the bill. Several local performers, including Rize and Splitbreed, round out the night. November 27, 9 p.m., $10.

Untz.Giving at Vanguard Lounge While everyone else is shackled to their ovens prepping for the big feast, give thanks for your freedom at this all-house, all-local-DJ Downtown throwdown, featuring Edgar Reyes, Bad Beat, Svast and others. November 27, 9 p.m., free.
