Hot Spots: Lloyd at the Bank, EDC spillover sets and more

Image
Dedication to his craft: Lloyd performs at the Bank this weekend.

Cedric Gervais at Tao Tao is borrowing Miami producer/DJ Cedric Gervais—famous remixer of Lana Del Rey, Miley Cyrus and (gulp) Howard Jones—from sister-club Marquee in order to offer some A-list oontz during EDC Week. Let’s hope he returns no worse for wear (unlike the condition in which you used to return your big sister’s Barbies—you know, looking like they had too much EDC Week). June 19, doors at 10 p.m., $30 men, $20 women.

Terry Mullan at Downtown Cocktail Room Among a crowded calendar of DJ parties, here’s one that can’t be overlooked. Downtown’s original house room plays host to a legend for its Friday Night Social party: Chicago’s Terry Mullan, playing a free (!) gig to a crowd of underground fans and every local DJ not working or attending EDC. Clear the furniture from the front room—it’ll be standing (or dancing) room only. June 20, 9 p.m., free.

School’s Out at Body English No more pencils! No more books! No more teachers’ dirty looks! That’s right—the grades are in, which means a good chunk of clubgoers only have to think about how they’ll avoid hangovers for the next three months. Celebrate that temporary freedom at the HRH nightspot, where Mr. Belding (Saved by the Bell actor Dennis Haskins) hosts Friday. June 20, doors at 10:30 p.m., $30 men, $20 women.

Floatopia at Palms Pool The Weekly kicks off EDC weekend at the off-Strip oasis, where the pool will be packed with inflatables for the first seasonal installment of the popular Floatopia splash bash. Be sure to RSVP for complimentary Captain Morgan White cocktails from noon to 1 p.m. In the booth: MICS and Mark Stylz. June 20, noon, $20 men, $10 women, free entry with RSVP at lasvegasweekly.com/floatopia.

Lloyd at the Bank Who but the staunchest of feminists or purest of puritans wouldn’t want to watch R&B singer Lloyd take to the stage inside the Bellagio and belt out his biggest international hit, “Dedication to My Ex (Miss That)”? It’s a song about a man scorned, who misses a certain aspect of his lady—a lot—and sings about it in the second-most profane way possible. And the track’s catchy enough to compel the ladies to chime in on that (in)famous refrain, too. June 20, doors at 10:30 p.m., $44+ men, $22+ women.

Soleful Gathering at Beauty Bar Fresh kicks meet fresh beats Friday night at Beauty Bar. Sneaker enthusiasts are invited to sell, buy and trade their fancy footwear at the Fremont East watering hole, where local DJs and musicians will be supplying a soundtrack sure to give attendees an excuse to wear any new acquisitions. June 20, doors at 9 p.m., free.

Robbie Rivera at Go Pool Everyone’s getting in on the EDC action—even the Go Pool at the Flamingo, considered one of the Strip’s greatest aquatic escapes. This week, it will experiment with international DJ programming by featuring the transportive musical offerings of Miami producer/DJ Robbie Rivera, as well as what should be a less chaotic scene than at the other pool clubs. June 21, doors at 10 a.m., $20 (includes cocktail).

Pasties and Pastries at Sapphire Pool & Day Club Peep the indulgence overload: pasties (read: girls), pastries (which are totally free) and a double-digit helping of North American and local underground DJs, including Hatiras, Donald Glaude, Brett Rubin and Spacebyrdz. Still restless from EDC, or just looking to start your day right? Pick your indulgence at this breakfast-to-dinner bacchanalia. June 22, doors at 6 a.m., $10-$30, free for locals arriving in own cars or Sapphire limos.
