On The Border Mexican Grill & Cantina has closed its doors at all but five locations just over a year after filing for bankruptcy.

A change on their official website June 12 revealed 27 of their locations would no longer be operating, leaving five remaining locations across four states.

This includes two in California, one located in San Diego and one in Escondido, one in Las Vegas, another in Rapid City, South Dakota, and a final location in the Orlando International Airport in Orlando, Florida. The chain also operates at least one international location in South Korea.

The Las Vegas location is in the northwest valley on Centennial Center Boulevard.

The chain’s website’s homepage for the last week has displayed a statement to customers explaining that all of their company-owned restaurant locations have ceased operations, as well extended gratitude to the guests and team members who supported the chain throughout its years.

A link to the final five franchise locations can also be found adjacent to the statement.

The popular Tex-Mex food chain opened its first location in Dallas, Texas in 1982. At its peak it had over 160 restaurants nationwide, as well as a dozen of international locations in Puerto Rico and South Korea.

On The Border Mexican Grill & Cantina has been serving Tex-Mex staples like burritos, fajitas, tacos and margaritas for over four decades.

OTB LLC Holding, the chain’s parent company, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in March 2025 and has since been rapidly closing locations over the last year and a half with the intention to sell all its assets.

The remaining storefronts will remain in full operation.

On the Border Mexican Grill & Cantina did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
